Unburden your Shoulders

Without our shoulders, we would be unable to move our arms in the myriad positions that yoga asanas require: out to the sides in uttitha trikonasana (triangle pose), over our head in urdhva hastasana (upward hand position), weight bearing in sirsasana (head balance) or supporting our torso in salamba sarvangasana (shoulder stand). In this workshop, we will explore both mobility and stability of the shoulder joint. We will start by targeting the muscles that limit shoulder mobility and then move on to creating the proper placement and insertion of the upper arm into the shoulder socket through a variety of exercises to develop space and mobility. We will finish with some back bending action and inversions to build the strength and stability of the shoulders.
